Special Events

Sunday June 13, THE TIPSY GYPSIES throw down

Sustenance is thrilled to present the local group The Tipsy Gypsies!  Come and join us for live music, great food and fun!  Bring a lawn chair and your favorite adult beverage and spend your Sunday in style.  $10 at the door, food sold seperately.  We look forward to seeing you there, cheers!

Sustenance Cooking Studio is bringing the community of San Luis Obispo into the kitchen. We are interested in tying some aspect of caring for your community into everything we do. We are about to audition nine new and very talented chefs and we decided to make it fun! We asked each chef to identify a non-profit of choice and one of the non-profits will win a free venue rental from Sustenance valued at $750.00. In addition, many of the chefs have also elected to volunteer their services so some lucky non-profit may get a venue and a chef for free! It will be a great way to do an appreciation dinner, a fundraiser, a get-to-know-each other event or something else!

Here are the details:

Friday, April 30- May 12th we will have each chef create a dish for our lunch demonstration (which is a casual lunch with a chef) Anyone who comes in for lunch that day gets to put their vote into the jar of the non-profit they hope will win. At the end of the 9 days the non-profit with the most votes wins a free rental of Sustenance (with chef services in some cases!)

How you can help your non-profit win: Put the word out. Get people to come in and vote for you during our lunch demonstration Friday April 30- May 12. During the competition everyone eats at the $10.00 member rate!

Why are we doing this?

We know there are a lot of non-profits out there that want to have an event but can’t afford the rent! We also want you to be tempted in to our beautiful studio!

How much is lunch?

For this event we will treat anyone who is associated with any of the identified non-profits as ” members,” so it will be $10.00

How much is membership?

It’s FREE!

How does it work?

You buy a five lunch punch-card for $50.00 –but you don’t have to–you can just come in for the day!

Concerts – Parties – More!

Sustenance Cooking Studio is getting the party started on Sunday April, 18th. A series of spring Sandwich and Sangria concerts will put you in the mood for Music in the Mission. Come to Sustenance in the Railroad District on April 18 at 2:00 to see a trio of powerhouse performers.

BARFLYZ IN CONCERT

Kenny Lee Lewis, the legendary singer, songwriter, guitarist of the Steve Miller Band. Lewis is credited as one of the songwriters who gave Steve Miller “personality,”* Kenny Lee Lewis chose to stay in the background by composing for other artists. His “Cool Magic” on the Steve Miller Band’s Abracadabra album reached Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and his co-produced “Shangri-La” on Italian X-Rays was described as “the LP’s standout track.”** More recently, Kenny’s co-produced “Why Can’t I Fall in Love” has become a college cult favorite off the Pump Up the Volume soundtrack album and his “Midnight Train” was picked as a single on The Steve Miller Band’s 1993 Wide River album. Numerous songwriting credits appear on such labels as A&M, Capitol, Elektra, ABC/MCA, BMG, Sony, Warner, and UA/EMI. Other movie soundtrack credits include Protocol, Spring Break, Iron Eagle, and Night of the Comet. He will perform with band mate, Danny Pelfrey, who in addition to playing with Steve Miller Band performed and recorded Carole King, Diana Ross, Tower of Power, Bobby Caldwell, Eric Clapton, Smokey Robinson, Luther Vandross and many others. Rounding out the trio is Ken Hustad on bass. Hustad has played with Inga Swearingen, Marvin Hamlish, and Marc O’Connor. If the stars line up right, (and we mean that literally!) Kenny Lee may also talk his wife, Diane Steinberg-Lewis into playing keyboards and singing. She has had three records released since 1974 and was “Lucy” in the movie “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.” Her vocal talents were featured on the soundtrack album which went double Platinum. Is anyone else as amazed as we are that this kind of performance is going to happen in San Luis Obispo?

To purchase tickets become a “fan” of Sustenance Studio on Facebook. Or just come in for lunch. Tickets will be $15.00 for members and fans. $25.00 for non-members. A portion of the proceeds will go to Hospice Partners of San Luis Obispo County, because we believe that it can be fun to do a good thing. We are lining up three other performances for the series so stay in touch with Sustenance and let’s make the most of living in paradise. Superstars, Sangria and an outstanding Sandwich….life doesn’t get much better.
